where you from and where you going?

Just start. The first step is usually the hardest. It is the one that requires stepping over self doubt, perception, and fear.

I know you can only do 4 push ups, kinda. But if you want to get good at them, you have to do them. 4 at a time. Then 7, then 12, then 19. It’s the daily discipline. Don’t worry about the person that can do 50. Its about you. And you can get there if that is your goal.

Maybe you can only run/jog for 6 minutes, but if you keep at it, you WILL get up to 8, then double digits, then 30 minutes. But you have to keep trying and adding a little at a time. Don’t worry about breaks. Don’t worry about the wheezing. Don’t worry about the guy in the matching outfit who isn’t even breaking a sweat and has lapped you twice. We all started somewhere. We all started at zero.

This time in history is perhaps giving a lot of people the chance. The chance to make a change. The chance to dream and learn and grow. Maybe for you it is getting back in shape. Or maybe redesign where your career is going. Or change your relationships. Were you off balance in some aspect of your life. This is the opportunity. This is the chance you may never get again when the whole world has slowed down and you probably have some extra time in your week to exercise, take a course, learn a language, start a business, volunteer, redesign your life.

Don’t let what you think other people are thinking about you hold you back. I will give you a tip — No one is thinking anything about you. They have their own problems and issues and concerns. And anyone who comments on you, is really commenting on themselves. Don’t accept the misguided judgement, Be you. Do you.

And there is a thing called Herd Mentality. It is the tendency for people’s behaviour or beliefs to conform to those of the group to which they belong. Think about that. Are you changing who you are to fit into your surroundings? Are you holding yourself back because of it. Maybe you need to hang out with a different herd. One that supports and encourages change and betterment, and not one that discourages improvement asking why you want to go for a run or take a course, instead of watching the latest reality tv show!

I know this time is difficult. We are living it as well. But your mindset needs to be one of growth and opportunity. Trim the excess. Focus on the necessary. Make the move to be who you want to be when normal returns.

You got this.
